The San Francisco Botanical Garden is a 55-acre public garden in the southeastern part of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California. Situated less than three miles from the Pacific Coast, the Garden benefits from the city's moderate climate of warm, dry summers and rainy, frost-free winters. Known as a Mediterranean climate, this weather pattern is found in only five other regions of the world: Chile, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the countries around the Mediterranean Sea. More than 7,500 plant species in the Garden have been collected from these regions and are grouped by their countries of origin. Specialty gardens make up the rest of this beautiful and varied place. The SF Botanical Garden is located near the Japanese Tea Garden, de Young Museum, and California Academy of Sciences. It is easily reached by public transportation (see Directions & Links). The map above is interactive. Clicking a garden zone will take you a page with links to videos and photographs.
